ASEEES 2017 Convention Chicago – Useful Info Before You Go

With over 650 sessions, a presidential plenary, a film series, exhibits, and many other special events, the 2017 ASEEES Convention, Nov. 9-12, at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, at 540 North Michigan Avenue (driveway entrance on 541 N Rush Street), Chicago, Illinois, 60611, 1-312-836-0100 [google map], promises to be an axceptional convention . We thank the Convention Program Committee for their hard work!

Please find below some useful information about the convention, ground transportation, and the city of Chicago, Illinois. You can still register on-site at the Convention to attend.

While you can always view the convention program on our website, we also offer a mobile app.  You do not need to be connected to the internet to use it once it has been downloaded. Wear Your Badge

Please wear your badge during the convention; we will be monitoring badges for registration.  Also, the Art Institute of Chicago is offering free admission with the ASEEES Convention badge on Nov. 9-14.

 

Convention Info

  • The registration/badge pick-up desk opens on Thur, Nov 9 at 9:00 am CT at the 7th Floor registration desk.

  • The first session begins at 1:00 pm CT on Thur, Nov 9; the last session ends at 1:45 pm CT on Sun, Nov 12.

  • The exhibit hall opens on Thur, Nov 9, 4:00 pm CT (Salon 2-3, 7th Floor, across from the registration desk).

  • The opening reception and exhibit hall tour is on Thur, Nov 9, 6:30-8:00 pm CT. Join us for appetizers and a cash bar. We will raffle off door prizes.

  • Please carefully review the Audio-visual equipment policy. You will need to bring your own laptop and presentations on thumb drives as there is no wifi in the meeting rooms.  For example, you cannot stream a video from Youtube.  You need to download it to your laptop first. We have set up a prep room on the 5th Floor office behind a registration desk for you to test out the setup.

  • If you are panel member, please review the panel best practices and the paper upload/download information.

  • The program includes a variety of special events including a Presidential Plenary on ”1917 and Its Implications” on Friday

  • Attendees are invited to a reception prior to the Award Ceremony and President’s Address on Sat, Nov 11, at 5:30-6:30 pm CT in Salon 1 (7th Floor). Appetizers and cash bar will be offered. Join us afterwards to congratulate the 2017 ASEEES Prize winners at the Award Ceremony and President’s Address, which starts at 6:30 pm in the same room.  Anna Grzymala-Busse, 2017 ASEEES President, will give her address, “Betraying the Revolutions?”. The Award Ceremony/President’s Address is open to the public.

  • We have 440+ first-time attendees, whose name badge will include a green ribbon. We ask our regular attendees to extend hospitality and assistance to those wearing the green ribbons—we all remember how overwhelming the convention was the first time we attended.

  • If you are staying at the convention hotel and are a Marriott Rewards member, wifi is complimentary in the guestroom.

Annual Meeting of ASEEES Members

The annual meeting of ASEEES members is on Fri, Nov. 10, 5:45 – 6:15 pm, CT (Salon 1); All ASEEES members are invited to attend. ASEEES officers will present reports on the state of the Association.

ASEEES Office/Online Membership Closed

The ASEEES main office in Pittsburgh will be closed Nov 6-13 for the convention. We will reopen on Nov. 14.  The online membership renewal will be disabled Nov. 2-11; you can renew your membership at the on-site registration desk, or after the convention.
