2017 ASEEES Convention Schedule Announced

The 2017 ASEEES Annual Convention at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile on November 9-12 promises to be a momentous event. With over 650 sessions, the convention will be one of the largest ASEEES conventions since the mid 1990s. The convention theme “Transgressions” along with the related 1917 centennial has drawn great interest in the convention.

A preliminary schedule for the Convention is now available here. Click on the link “Go directly to the 2017 Convention program online” to see the searchable online schedule.  You can find your own panel/roundtable/meeting schedule(s) by clicking on “View the Online Program” and entering your name or your panel/roundtable/meeting title in the Search box. You can also view the entire convention schedule grid under “Program Calendar” in the left navigation bar.

If you see any errors in the program, please send a notification to If your affiliation has changed, please make the change in your profile on the ASEEES Members Site.

A PDF version of the preliminary program will be available on the convention website in mid June.

Please DO NOT ask us to move your session.  The Program Chair and the Program Committee have spent hours of time trying to avoid thematic conflicts.  This is an exceptionally large convention and we cannot accommodate individual scheduling requests.  Room assignments are subject to change; room assignments will be published in the final program.

The deadline to submit session changes to the final program is Sept 5.  All changes should be sent to

ALL participants on panels/roundtables – session chairs, discussants, paper presenters and roundtable members, WITHOUT EXCEPTION, must pre-register and pay the registration fee. The Early Registration Deadline is August 11.  Registration rates will go up after that date. Note: Session organizers are not considered “participants” and do not need to register if that is their only function and are not attending the convention.

Registration exception: Exhibitors with exhibitor badges who are also participating in sessions do not need to register separately for the convention, though they should notify the office so that they can be recorded correctly.

All participants who are Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies specialists in the US and abroad must be current ASEEES members. If you are not currently a member or have not renewed your membership for 2017, you must do so immediately.

Only specialists outside the field of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian studies are not required to join ASEEES, but must register for the convention at the non-member rate. Please note that it is cheaper to join at the Affiliate Member level than to pay the non-member regular registration fee. Consider becoming a member. Learn more about membership in ASEEES.

Please note that membership dues payment is not the same as registering for the convention.

Please book your hotel room at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile as soon as possible; we will definitely sell out.  Reservations can be made online or by calling 1-877-303-0104 toll free. Please reference “Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasians Studies 2017” to receive the discounted rate.

If you are looking to share a room, please check out our Roomshare Locator.

If you require an official invitation letter, particularly for US visa purposes, please submit your request by no later than Sept 15.

ASEEES will provide an LCD projector/plasma TV set-up with speakers in each meeting room for panels and roundtables. No other audio-visual equipment will be provided. You will be required to bring any other equipment, i.e., your own laptop and necessary cables (especially if you have a Mac), to make your presentation. There is NO internet access in the meeting rooms.  Please see the A-V policy info for more details.
