ASEEES response to designation as an “undesirable organization” by the Russian government
We recently learned that the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies has been declared an “undesirable organization” by the Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation. We consider this punitive measure unwarranted because ASEEES’s fundamental mission is to support research and teaching about Russia as well as Eastern Europe and Eurasia, leading to a deeper understanding of the region. We call on the Russian government to reverse this unjustified designation.
